The answer was C2H4F2.
But, I don't understand how they got it. Can someone explain it to me. I really need an explanation tonight because I have an Organic Chem. test tomorrow and this is on it. I don't know why I don't know how to do it. Anyway, please help. Thank you.

The best way to look at this is to look at the difference in an alkane or alkene.
If it were an alkene, we could get:
C2H2F2
If it were an alkyne we could only have:
C2F2 (this does not exist)
So the answer could only be the alkane:
C2H4F2 where a normal ethane is C2H6
The answer was C2H4F2.
Likely candidates are:
H3C-CHF2
and F-CH2-CH2-F
