I have a homework assignment that states:

A decomposition reaction has a rate constant of 0.0012 yr ^ -1

Since the prime exponent is after the units, what the heck does this mean? I have never seen this before. Thanks for your help in advance.

It just means "per year"

Moles per liter can be written mol/L or mol L^-1.

it means that the unit is in the denominator. 0.0012/yr.
