Is it true that the internal combustion engine is already passe? If so, why are new cars still made with it?

The internal combustion engine is definitely not passe. It is still the most powerful energy source for its size that we know how to make.

Because gasoline is the only stable and reliable fuel source we have so far created. Hydrogen is too dangerous and costly, ethanol is still not widely available enough to change all the technology, and electric cars still pollute (since we need to produce the electricity for them somewhere, and that is via the power stations).
