Why are lamps in a house lighting circuit not connected in series?

Also, what are the different types of resistance and there purposes?

In addition to the whole house going dark in the event one blows, they would have to be matched to the voltage i.e. 10 lamps on 120v would have to be 12v each. 12 lamps on 120v would have to be 10v each.

Also they would have to be the same power otherwise the voltage would not divide equally.

All in all too many reasons

Simple, if all the lights were connected in series, if one bulb is burned out, the circuit is open and the whole house is dark, until that lamp is repaced and the circuit is complete or has continuity again.
