For humans, glucose is made in the body. Food is digested and the sugars are absorbed into the blood stream. These sugars are called glucose. Then, insulin is secreted by the pancreas, allowing glucose to be absorbed into cells for energy. There are cases where the body cannot produce enough insulin, leaving excess glucose wandering through the bloodstream. This is called hyperglycemia, and in more advanced cases, it escalates to diabetes. If you don't have enough glucose in your blood, this is called hypoglycemia, and can often be fixed by merely eating, or the body may release glucagon, which releases glucose into the blood, though medical help is sometimes required.
