Terrorist d-bags + impact + fire + time + gravity = collapse
The official conclusion is that fire melted the steel floor trusses causing the floors to pull and sag against the exterior wall causing the collapse. I'd like to correct one user who said he they weren't designed to take a plane hit. Actually there were. There design was specifically built for this and many architects would agree.
Fire and the type of construction.
Another question could be why did they stand so long after being terribly damaged?
People forget that while almost 3000 died, 15,000 got out alive before they collapsed.
the people constructing didn't expect someone to crash a plane into it.
the safety mechanisms were designed for like...office things. not planes.
