I know this has to do with the complementary angle theorem, but I can't figure out how to solve it. An explanation would be appreciated more than an answer.

180 = 90 + 38 + 52

SIN X == COS (90 - X)

Look at the triangle

Label the sides H = 1 base = cos 38 height = sin 38

rotate the triangle

ReLable the sides H = 1 base = sin 52 height = cos 52

you can see sin 38 = height = cos 52

hope this helps
