Does the Asian elephant exist only in India or does it live in other countries?

As far as I know the Asian elephant is dalled the Indian elephant. Is it because it lives only in India?

The Asian Elephant is usually referred to as "Indian" mainly to distinguish it from African elephants and also because most are found in India.

HOWEVER, they inhabit a wide area from Pakistan, notably Thailand and neighboring areas in southeast mainland Asia. There are no elephants in Mid to Northern Asia, Korea or Japan or the Philippines, even if these countries are part of ASIA.
