Help with Calculus hw rate of change?

the problem: f(x)= x^2-8x+18 the average rate of change, m(x), of f(x) from 5 to x is m(x)= f(x) - f(5) / x-5 By appropriate substitution, express m(x) in terms of x the answer is m(x)= x-3 i got as far as m(x)= f(x)-3 / x-5 but I don't know where to go from there, please show me how!
