y = mx + b

Calculate m the slope.

m = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1

m =8 - 1 / (3 --1/2) = 2

Now y = 2x + b

Chose either point and substitute. Let x = 3 and y = 8

8 = 2 (3) + b

2 = b

Equation y = 2x + 2

y=2x+2

Or I think that's the answer!

The gradient of the line:

(X1 and Y1) = (-0.5,1)

(X2 and Y2) = (3,8)

Gradient = (Y2-Y1)/(X2 - X1)

Gradient = (8-1)/(3+0.5) = 2

Then you need to find the intercept.

so substitute X1 and Y1 or X2 and Y2 into the equation

y=2x+c

Using X2 and Y2

8=2x3 + c

8=6+c

8-6=c

c=2

Equation of line is y=2x+2

I'm not sure but I think that's how you work it out.
