What is the IUPAC name for the compound :

which can be simplified into:

Carboxylic group will be given preference against aldehyde. Thus whe n we start numbering the cooh group will get 1, while cho wil get 3. Can use prefix for aldehyde, thus ur teacher is correct

2 will not be take for the formyl, as the carbon of aldehyde is also counted in the carbon chain
